B's Nursery

When I started working on Bryce's nursery, I hadn't planned on finding out the sex of the baby, so I was going for "gender neutral."  I was going to paint the walls blue "just in case..." and decided on classic winnie-the-pooh... what is more gender neutral than pooh bear??? Well, we all know that I found out the sex... so the nursery wound of being part pooh bear, part baseball.  I love the way it turned out, and how bright and colorful it is.

Color!  Same nursery furniture used in both girls room.  I love it with the blue:)

There is actually a white vinyl wall art over the crib with a winnie-the-pooh quote "sometimes the smallest things in life take up the most room in your heart."  I was so dissapointed it didn't show up on the blue walls...I may re-order it in a navy...

Beautiful quilt my MIL made for Bryce...she hadn't even seen the nursery, but colors turned out perfect!

I joke with Jay that it is a good thing Bryce FINALLY got here, b/c I pretty much spent the last 2 weeks of my pregnancy online buying things for Bryce and Reese's room!  Now that he is here I may have saved myself from bankruptcy;)  Reese's room is adorable, and I can't wait to post pics, but I still need to get a few things... right now Reese is still sleeping in the crib (which is now in Bryce's room)... b/c that wild child is just not ready to be realeased from behind bars.  B is in our room.

Little man

At his one month checkup, B was 9 pounds 13 ounces, and 22 inches long...His pediatrician was super impressed that he was smiling and cooing already...baby genius! 

Zoe's New Room!!!

I am really proud of Zoe's new room for several reasons... 1.  It didn't cost very much to do  2.  Almost everything in her room I already had (either it came from her old room, or it was in the guest bedroom, and 3.  It is so cute!! (IMHO)

Now, here is a little picture tour...

Here is the room before I got started.. had just bought the bedding from Home Goods... about $39.99.  You can see how the night stand used to look here before I painted it.  Also, we completely rearranged the furniture to another wall, you may not be able to tell from pictures though.

Here is the bed all made up.  Everything on the bed is new and from Home Goods, except for the white pillow which I believe was about $10 from IKEA.  Also, you can see I spray painted the old wood IKEA mirrors to match the bedding and placed over the bed.   LOVE LOVE LOVE the pale pink on the walls.  "Hush" from Behr.  The paint was probably the most expensive part of the room... about $80 for 2 gallons plus supplies.  Bedding total was about $75 with pillows. 

The headboard and dresser were a gift from my parents when I got my first apartment (so they are about 10 years old now!  Antiques??? haha).  They are a very nice set from Bassett, so there was no way I was touching them with any paint, however I really love how the brown wood looks in the room!  Was pleasantly surprised!

 I have had this mirror for many, many years.  Bought it at Garden Ridge.  I spray painted it hot pink to match the bedding, and placed it in the corner (see next photo for after)

 CUTE!  The green memory boards(not sure what they are called?), are from Kohl's, and these were moved from Zoe's old room.  Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle ;)

This is probably my favorite part of the room.  Bookshelves form IKEA (less than $30 for both)... these are the best book shelves ever because 1.  They are CHEAP 2.  They are so cute!!, and 3.  Kids can't pull them down on their heads because they are anchored to the wall!! WIN!  If you look above the table (again, Zoe has had this table for several years), you can see the butterfly mobile that started out over her crib as an infant and now is in her book/coloring corner.

Night stand next to bed... this was spray painted lime green to match bedding, then I replaced the old knobs with crystal ones.  I didn't mind spray painting the night stand b/c it was a cheapie off of overstock.com we have had for about 5 years.  "Z is for Zoe" print bought on Etsy several years ago and came from her old room.

MY FIRST DIY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have FINALLY refinished an adorable glass hutch that I thought would look good in my living/kitchen open area.  I probably bought this thing 4 months ago, with every intention of finsishing it quickly, only for it to just sit in my garage and collect dust!!  I just could not get motivated!!  I think I have finally recieved some of that "second trimester" energy I hear about (but never seem to get!)...;)  So the past couple of days I have been hard at work on the piece, and I think it turned out PERFECT!!  I am very proud of myself, and now I am excited to tackle more projects!

On the down side, this was not some great garage sale or Goodwill find for $40... I found this at an antique store in McKinney listed for $200... Jay and I being the cheap people we are managed to get it for about $140 :)  I loved it because it was just the style and size I was looking for.

Here are some "after" photos:

I sanded the entire piece, then painted it with "painters touch" paint from Home Depot in black "flat"

I switched out all the knobs to some really cute crystal knobs I found, the pics don't do it justice

Once I was finished, I lightly sanded the entire piece again to give it a lighter and more "shabby" look

Here is a shot with some things I have added to the shelves already.  PLEASE, I welcome any suggestions for some cute stuff to add... this is not my best skill.

I think I may have paid about $50 for the knobs/paint/supplies... bringing the total cost of the project to about $200... that is still cheaper than most of the other already finished pieces I found that I thought would work, and I like this one best!

So there it is! I think it turned out so cute! It is perfect in the space I wanted it to go in.  Next up, I am tackling Zoe's new room (which is our old guest bedroom)... then on to the new nursery.  We will probably be in this house for awhile (forever???
